Georgia - Russia Conflict (Images)
Posted by Flick
There has been a lot of political and physical force over in East Europe, via Russia and Georgia having engaged into military conflict with each other. The dispute is being fought over and in South Ossetia, by tanks, airforce and ‘the military’. It is said that Georgia has pulled 1,000 of it’s troops from Iraq to quickly come back and ‘defend’ their homeland. It is also reported that over 1,400 civilians have been killed with high casualty rates along with 2 downed Russian fighter-jets. However Georgian troops have estimated a lost of over 100 dead and high casualty rate. Georgia, a strong ally of the United States is calling for help however I don’t believe they will recieve it, everyone knows that Russia has a lot of nuclear bombs/missiles and are pretty capable when it comes to military might. So unless the US leader is somewhat delusional I don’t think all out anhiliation would do to well with the Earth and especially the people living inside it.
It is also pretty apparent that the South Ossetia capital, Tskhinvali, has been taken somewhat over by the Russians. From what I’ve read 12 T-72 tanks of the Georgian military have been distroyed. However from the videos I’ve seen on various video websites such as YouTube and news websites, Georgia has no-chance at-all in fighting with Russia as Russia seem for some reason are well prepared and conviently had a large enough force to engage inside of Georgian territory; latest news also suggest that another 10,000 Russian reinforcements are on the way. The Russian president has also declared that a cease fire agreement will only occur when Georgian military forces pulls back to initially Georgia. Here are some preview images:

2000 Confirmed dead (11.08.2008)
In a recent report by several news agencies, it is said that 2,000 lives have been taken in this war so far. The Georgian president, Mikhail Saakashvili, has said himself that he has pulled his forces out of South Ossetia whether this is true or not Russia is actually moving inside and is attacking inside Georgian borders and it is said that a Russian warship has destroyed a single Georgian Missile boat. The United States has declared that if Russia goes any further they will stake a more serious stance on the situation. There is also panic in the City of Gori and thousands upon thousands of citizens are fleeing the city from invasion. Further more it is also said that 10 Russian planes have been downed from a more recent report. However the Kremlin has stated that they are continuing into Georgian territory if Georgian troops in South Ossetia do not fall back, as they have firmly expressed that Georgian troops are still in the state; even after the cease fire agreement which Georgian president is offering to resolve this situation.
The big NATO governments of US, Germany, Britian, Italy, Poland and Canada have expressed and advised citizens of Georgia to seek safe passage to Armenia. - While Georgian president had expressed in a conference last night suggesting “existence of the Georgian state is under threat”.

Update - Peace talks (14.08.2008)
EU and French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has talked with both leaders of Russia and Georgia, he has managed to strike a deal which could internally save Georgia and save the lives of countless innocents. He has proposed and said that all Russian and Georgian forces should pull back to initially where before the Conflict actually started. However due to these peace talks, talk has been going on that Russia isn’t sticking to the cease fire agreement which they agreed to. BBC reporters have also said that there is still bombing going on around the abandoned city or Gori. President Bush has sent over supplies and military personal to help the fleeing 100,000 Georgians and it is also quite apparent from several tabloids that Bush is actually going over to Georgia, US Secretary of State for the United States, Condoleezza Rice has also spoken up and has said: “We expect all Russian forces that entered Georgia in recent days to withdraw from that country”.
As conflict seems to be still going on, it seems the situation is weakening in terms of military force and that diplomatic means are insuing to the solve this situation at hand. I don’t believe this will turn into another World War and if it does, we should all hide underground if anything as nukes will be the only defensive weaponry for the ‘losing’ side. However I’m hoping this situation gets solved and I wish things to go well with both Georgia and Russia. - There was also an Olympic Russian and Georgian Athelete shaking hands dispite the fighting going on with both Countries.
