Family friendly
Posted by Flick
Over the months, we have had to monitor every single image uploaded, as unfriendly images were being uploaded, to which we do not allow. (Read our “Terms of Service” for more information) However, I have concluded that abusers are no longer coming back, as they know their images will get deleted and their ips banned regardless of them uploading images which are deemed unfriendly. This just goes to prove, that we are indeed ‘family friendly’ and we hope to keeps things this way. Let’s move on from the serious talk and have a look at the latest uploaded images for today!

Some… interesting images, that’s the images I picked out for this month! ![]()
Years bandwidth usage
Posted by Flick

As I like posting bandwidth statistics of FlickCabin.com, here is the statistics for 2008’s bandwidth usage:

So close to around 1 Terabyte! Now we are no imageshack or photobucket, but that is quite a bit of bandwidth for a small image hosting service such as FlickCabin.com, though then again, it’s only a years statistic and isn’t all to much for such niche/service. As we grow, we’ll most likely be using A LOT more than this with advertising schemes in-place and as such we will try to promote, fast & free reliable image hosting.
Georgia - Russia Conflict (Images)
Posted by Flick
There has been a lot of political and physical force over in East Europe, via Russia and Georgia having engaged into military conflict with each other. The dispute is being fought over and in South Ossetia, by tanks, airforce and ‘the military’. It is said that Georgia has pulled 1,000 of it’s troops from Iraq to quickly come back and ‘defend’ their homeland. It is also reported that over 1,400 civilians have been killed with high casualty rates along with 2 downed Russian fighter-jets. However Georgian troops have estimated a lost of over 100 dead and high casualty rate. Georgia, a strong ally of the United States is calling for help however I don’t believe they will recieve it, everyone knows that Russia has a lot of nuclear bombs/missiles and are pretty capable when it comes to military might. So unless the US leader is somewhat delusional I don’t think all out anhiliation would do to well with the Earth and especially the people living inside it.
It is also pretty apparent that the South Ossetia capital, Tskhinvali, has been taken somewhat over by the Russians. From what I’ve read 12 T-72 tanks of the Georgian military have been distroyed. However from the videos I’ve seen on various video websites such as YouTube and news websites, Georgia has no-chance at-all in fighting with Russia as Russia seem for some reason are well prepared and conviently had a large enough force to engage inside of Georgian territory; latest news also suggest that another 10,000 Russian reinforcements are on the way. The Russian president has also declared that a cease fire agreement will only occur when Georgian military forces pulls back to initially Georgia. Here are some preview images:

Above are Russian tanks entering South Ossetia.

2000 Confirmed dead (11.08.2008)
In a recent report by several news agencies, it is said that 2,000 lives have been taken in this war so far. The Georgian president, Mikhail Saakashvili, has said himself that he has pulled his forces out of South Ossetia whether this is true or not Russia is actually moving inside and is attacking inside Georgian borders and it is said that a Russian warship has destroyed a single Georgian Missile boat. The United States has declared that if Russia goes any further they will stake a more serious stance on the situation. There is also panic in the City of Gori and thousands upon thousands of citizens are fleeing the city from invasion. Further more it is also said that 10 Russian planes have been downed from a more recent report. However the Kremlin has stated that they are continuing into Georgian territory if Georgian troops in South Ossetia do not fall back, as they have firmly expressed that Georgian troops are still in the state; even after the cease fire agreement which Georgian president is offering to resolve this situation.
The big NATO governments of US, Germany, Britian, Italy, Poland and Canada have expressed and advised citizens of Georgia to seek safe passage to Armenia. - While Georgian president had expressed in a conference last night suggesting “existence of the Georgian state is under threat”.

Update - Peace talks (14.08.2008)
EU and French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has talked with both leaders of Russia and Georgia, he has managed to strike a deal which could internally save Georgia and save the lives of countless innocents. He has proposed and said that all Russian and Georgian forces should pull back to initially where before the Conflict actually started. However due to these peace talks, talk has been going on that Russia isn’t sticking to the cease fire agreement which they agreed to. BBC reporters have also said that there is still bombing going on around the abandoned city or Gori. President Bush has sent over supplies and military personal to help the fleeing 100,000 Georgians and it is also quite apparent from several tabloids that Bush is actually going over to Georgia, US Secretary of State for the United States, Condoleezza Rice has also spoken up and has said: “We expect all Russian forces that entered Georgia in recent days to withdraw from that country”.
As conflict seems to be still going on, it seems the situation is weakening in terms of military force and that diplomatic means are insuing to the solve this situation at hand. I don’t believe this will turn into another World War and if it does, we should all hide underground if anything as nukes will be the only defensive weaponry for the ‘losing’ side. However I’m hoping this situation gets solved and I wish things to go well with both Georgia and Russia. - There was also an Olympic Russian and Georgian Athelete shaking hands dispite the fighting going on with both Countries. 52,360 Unique Visits with 590,2299 hits
Posted by Flick
So we have had this year 52,360 unique visitors, this may not seem much for 8 months work. However consider that we haven’t one bit paid for any advertising on FlickCabin.com, which reflects as to why we have a ’small’ number of unique visitors. Though the thing is, this month we have recieved around 1,000 unique visitors per day, as in total each day we have recieved up to now 1,000 or more unique visitors. If this trend of UV’s stays like this (UV= Unique visitors) then we could earn ourselves a hefty 30,000 uniques visitors per month and this all without paying a penny to advertise. I don’t even want to stop there, so I will be utilizing paid advertisements to advertise FlickCabin.com on places like namepros.com and perhaps webhostingtalk if they allow advertisements such as this website and the free service that it provides.
So lets see some more statistics!:

So most of our traffic comes from the United States, followed by China, the percentage in terms of traffic mostly comes from the US as I mostly do a little advertising on forums which seems most users come from the United States/United Kingdom and even Canada. However I have seen Chinese images uploaded and I’m glad people from China are using the FlickCabin.com service and I hope the download/upload speeds are fast for them.
However I am surprised at how so little UK users use FlickCabin however it’s no problem, as I come from the UK and it just adds a little variety to the images uploaded to FlickCabin.
Here is another statistic:

The above image shows a lot of sinners, infact a majority of sinners using Internet Explorer! Around 67% of users who visit FlickCabin.com apparently are using Internet Explorer. I’ve just checked the site on IE6 and thank god it looks alright.
- However there is one error in IE6 as it shows the ‘Quick Login’ as if it were double layered per feild of login; such a shame.
Lastly, gif type images seem to be the most prominent in giving out the most bandwidth consumption. Throughout this month, gif images have used over 19GB of bandwidth and jpeg images have only used 9GB however PNG images are just below 1GB of bandwidth consumption.
Just to give you more of an insight on bandwidth and traffic consumption/information.
- Keep Flicking!
Apologies

We are at current experiencing technical difficulties with our older images, they are not displaying in the full view format. What we are doing is trying to restore all these images which are not correctly displaying, however this will take time as there are so many of these images. We should have the images back up and running by today, if not later on. We apologize for any of your images not appearing, however feel free to re-upload your images again and it will work, this ‘problem’ has just affected all older images that were uploaded. Solutions are being looked into, to solve the problem, though for now we will just have to get on the best we can with the current situation at hand.
Edit: New News
The problem has been fixed, Michael Andrick from WiredTree.com helped out a lot in fixing the issue, in fact he was the guy that fixed it, so thanks to him, over 1000 images are now being shown over the internet, but don’t forget the other 15,000 images we have hosted which he also helped with transferring over to the new server.
I can’t say the move went smoothly however these are things we have to deal with and luckily we have a good enough provider which can help us out whenever we are in trouble!
So yeah, things are now showing and I will be shortly sending out information via email to all registered users.
Thanks!
Alexa Rankings going through the roof!
Posted by Flick
Hey,
So it seems Alexa is being nice to FlickCabin.com, as just a couple days ago our rankings were around the 372,000 mark (Somewhere around that mark, from what I can recall) However our Alexa rankings have fallen to just 358,738. With a 13,000 Alexa drop, that is pretty good for just a few days and hopefully another of these drops will happen! Even though the 300,000+ is still pretty high, if we can get these drops every so often, we might be able to make below 100,000 one day especially with the word of mouth advertising campaigns we are doing. So if you are an Alexa user with tool bar installed, come visit our main website at FlickCabin.com! We have the Alexa statistics on our main page, so feel free to check it out!
As traffic is concerned Aw Stats is saying that we have received over 4,000 uniques in 6 days and 166,213 hits all in 6 days. Which is great and grand and hopefully we can topple the 13,000+ uniques we got last month and if we continue to get this sort of traffic than, amen to word of mouth advertising! Though in the up coming months, we will be expanding our advertising base and launch a series of advertisement on big websites to get us a few more hits and perhaps lower our Alexa Rankings!
Who keeps uploading the cheese!
Posted by Flick
I woke up this morning and I found a load of cheese uploaded, but wait, I’d seen this cheese before, look on page four of the public browser! So who is this cheese culprit! Take a look:

Now having a proper look at these ‘things’, it doesn’t seem they are cheese at-all. They look like ornaments of some kind from another country. I wonder what possibly they could be! Honestly, I thought they were all cheese, as they looked like cheese when I saw them and when I especially saw the ‘mold’ around it or whatever it was!
So what it is, I ask myself!
The Dark Knight
Posted by Flick

A user recently uploaded the above image to Flickcabin.com and I looked at the quote “Welcome to a World without rules”, it just got to me. However I watched this film in the cinemas a couple days ago and I must say it’s a brilliant film and I’d watch it again. I especially liked the joker, he had some charm to himself as well as a demented attitude.
- However the guy playing the joker, as I found out; died, which is sad as he wasn’t able to see for himself the full potential of the film. Not only that, he actually won an oscar for being and acting in the film; a superb actor and RIP. (Rest in peace)
So have you seen it? What striked you out about the film? If you haven’t seen it, I bid you to go and watch it, if you like these types of films then you’ll enjoy this one. ![]()
We are getting more popular!
Posted by Flick
With a steady increase in traffic, FlickCabin.com is getting more popular! More images are being uploaded and since the re-design and the initial ‘start over‘, FlickCabin has earned itself 96 users, in less than a month and we hope at least at the end of August to have over 200 users and so on; this is a goal we hope to accomplish. As we grow, we hope to add even more features, such as a public forum powered by vBulletin and as well as a flash uploader integrated into our current script.
3rd of the 8 of August
We are at 110 users! Hopefully this will grow, if it grows to over 200 this month, I’ll add a forum to the service we provide in the same or next month.
Thanks for reading. (Short and sweet?)

Yet a pagerank update!
Posted by Flick
![]()
It seems a pagerank update has occured and we have been upped from pagerank 1, to 2, it’s not a huge or dramatic change however it’s good enough for us as pagerank literally means nothing. However it’s just a way that Google measures an importancy of a website. More ‘official’ news can be found here, the guy who runs that blog works for Google, so that is pretty official, even if not considered official as I don’t believe Google as a whole provide such details as to when an update will occur.
I don’t believe the update is yet over, so you never know, our pagerank may change however from several reports on big forums reporting on said issue/update, there are people saying that the pagerank on their website is fluctuating. - The validity of this, I do not know, though I do believe that pagerank has updated for our site. If not, I only hope we get an even higher pagerank.
Suprisingly, this blog which was only recently added, has also pagerank 2 and is the same as our main service website; which is pretty neat. So far there is a lot of tension between what people are going to get as an updated pagerank. I only follow pagerank as it’s a neat idea that Google has come out with, it’s like a global thing where you have to have some form of pagerank to be at-all valid.
